Audio FAQs

Q. What is tracking
A. Tracking is the recording process whether in a studio on a multitrack recorder or on location using a stereo hard disk recorder.

Q. What is ment by Post Production?
A. Post production is the process by which the recorded audio is edited and made ready for mastering.

Q. What is mastering?
A. Mastering is the finalisation of the audio file before it is burnt to CD.

Q. How much audio can you get on a CD?
A. A standard audio CD can hold approximately 1 hours worth of audio. However, other formats, such as the DAISY format, can achieve up to 25 hours of audio on a standard CD.

Q. What is compression?
A. Compression is a way of reducing the loudest part of an audio file allowing the overall level to be raised.

Q. What does it mean by “wet” and “dry” when using reverb or other effects?
A. When an audio signal is “dry” this means there is no effects present. Conversly, when the term “wet” is used this means the audio signal is effected.

TTS FAQ

Q. What is text to speech?
A. Text to speech is a way of translating via software, text into synthesised speech.

Q. Do you use a human voice?
A. No, digi-talk uses a synthersised voice.

Q. Can I choose a different voice?
A. It is possible to use a different voice, but, there maybe a difference in audio quality.

Q. How does digi-talk differ from free services?
A. The difference between many of the free online services and digi-talk is that we spend time making the document sound and read correctly as possible. Documents are modified and the audio files are edited to help with internation and pronunciation.

Q. What formats can you provide?
A. Any standard audio formats, ie WAV, MP3 or as an audio CD. Your document can also be supplied as a DAISY format digital talking book (DTB).

Q. What is DAISY format?
A. The DAISY format is a way of linking MP3 files using HTML. It is used for longdocuments or books and requires a special hardware or software player to read it.
